How is gypsum plasterboard ceiling better than a POP ceiling?

POP false ceilings are made mainly of POP powder applied on a chicken net to provide mechanical strength. The whole process is not just time consuming, but also very dusty and crude. The powder needs to be mixed with water on site and then applied on the chicken mesh attached to local metal framing systems, with a lot of wastage. It is then treated and dried. Such a process could take as long as one month.

Gypsum plasterboard false ceilings use a sheet of gypsum plasterboard which is screw-fixed to the metal framing connected to the soffit. Joints are very few as gypsum plasterboard comes in large sheets and are then finished using specialist jointing compounds. How do you paint or finish a false ceiling?

False ceilings using gypsum plasterboard can be finished using any type of paint, wallpaper or laminate. The major advantage of a gypsum plasterboard false ceiling over conventional plastered finishes is that since it is a machine-finished surface, you can get seamless, smooth, undulation-free finishes. This means you can colour your ceilings and also use the high-end white colour paints you typically use for your walls on your ceilings; paint companies don't normally recommend such products for a plastered surface as they tend to show the waviness on the surface.
